PJC
No summary available yet.
PJC is a quietly solid fund that's been grinding for over two decades without much fanfare. They've delivered 1 unicorn (Nexamp), 2 IPOs (Expensify, Yandex), and 45 acquisitions - respectable returns but nothing that screams top-tier. The Gina Raimondo connection is interesting but also potentially problematic given the ethics questions around her prominent billing on their website while serving as Governor. David Martirano seems like a solid operator with real investment banking and M&A experience, but the team composition feels a bit thin for a fund that's been around this long. They're clearly competent at picking decent companies and helping them get to exit, but they're not going to give you the brand cachet or network effects of top Boston funds.
- —Best for: Founders who want experienced, low-drama partners without Silicon Valley hype
- —Watch out for: Limited brand recognition and smaller team means fewer resources than peers
- —Known for: Solid exits and long-term partnerships, especially in B2B SaaS and tech-enabled services
PJC is an early-stage venture capital firm focused on investing in, supporting, and building relationships with entrepreneurs who are creating the future. The firm seeks to be the first institutional capital deployed into a company and is focused on being a true partner to entrepreneurs as they drive their companies toward becoming industry leaders in their respective categories.
They primarily invest in Series A round in United States based startups, though they also do seed and pre-seed work. Their investments are spread across a wide range of sectors from Enterprise Applications to High Tech and Consumer, with a focus on enterprise, consumer, and artificial intelligence.
In 2001, David partnered with Governor Gina Raimondo, and together they founded Point Judith Capital in Rhode Island. Prior to PJC, David co-founded Rex Capital Ventures, which was a venture division of a family office that invested in early-stage technology companies around the world. He has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions and IPOs and sits on numerous boards.
PJC recently promoted Matt Hayes as newest General Partner. His past role was at Spring as part of the Founding Team in Business and Corporate Development. He appears to be one of their newer partners focused on building out the team.
